Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) Program

The Children’s Program partners with De La Salle North Catholic High School (DLSNC) to provide school-based mental health services for students who have experienced significant stress, adversity, or trauma. Through trauma-informed care, the program promotes healing, resilience, and emotional well-being while helping students build the skills needed to thrive academically and personally.

Guided by principles of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), STAR clinicians support students in understanding the effects of trauma, recognizing symptoms and triggers, developing effective coping strategies, and processing difficult experiences within a safe and supportive environment.

The STAR Program is led by Dr. Karina Peters and Dr. Soobin Im, with Dr. Karina Peters serving as the primary supervisor. Services are provided by Children’s Program psychology interns and residents under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. The program is implemented in close collaboration with DLSNC counselors, administrators, and school leadership, with clinicians also partnering with families, teachers, and other school personnel to foster student well-being and success.
