Therapeutic Class for Children (9-12 years) with Anxiety
The aim of this class is to help children with anxiety feel empowered to manage anxious feelings, thoughts, and behaviors with skill, curiosity, and compassion. This class is appropriate for children ages 9-12 who are experiencing symptoms under the umbrella of anxiety, including generalized worries, separation anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, panic symptoms, rumination, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
The class will involve: 1) daily lessons of new skills and 2) experiential practice of skills taught, through conversation, writing, arts and crafts, and movement activities. This class is well-suited for both children who have and have not had treatment for anxiety.
This class is best suited for children who are thoughtful, reasonably comfortable in social situations, and engaged. Having another mental health condition is acceptable (e.g. ADHD, depression), as long as other conditions are well-managed. This class is not appropriate for children classified as high-risk: one who is at risk of harm towards self or others.
